Green Dan Sash Renovations

6 July 2010 210 views 6 Comments

Many people assume that their sash windows have never opened properly, and have always rattled and needed newspaper stuffed down the frame to stop draughts, but they can’t afford new double glazed sash units. This company aims to return their windows to better than original condition using new products and techniques, as well as traditional joinery methods.

The founder, Dan Sadler, used to work in the aviation business and was becoming increasing frustrated and disillusioned by the utter waste and damage the industry was creating, and his inability to change it. After the birth of his daughter he decided it was time to work in an area that contributed to reducing people’s carbon footprint rather than adding to it.

The sash window restoration took off from day one and he is now at the stage where he needs to take on staff to cope with demand and help the business grow.

Installing draught proofing helps eliminate draughts and heat loss. This contributes to reducing household heating as well as noise and dust pollution. English Heritage have recently conducted experiments which show that repairing your sash windows reduces draughts by 30% and draught proofing up to 90%. Further results show that traditional style shutters in conjunction with good working windows can perform as well as modern double glazing.

Their ethos is to restore and repair as much of the original window as is possible using modern techniques and methods. This results in lower waste than window replacement would.

Sash windows are a key part of our architectural heritage and add to the saleability and value of period homes. It is essential that they are not replaced with plastic.

I can not praise the work done by Green Dan enough! Daniel’s restoration work was done around my manic lifestyle and children…a difficult request for any craftsmen…But without skipping a beat, Dan was without distraction or complaint, and a character for the children. Intuition and quality. All that and he’s tidy!

Dan has just finished a full sash window renovation on our property. We are delighted with the outcome – windows which actually open, and do not rattle at night nor let in draughts. Dan and his colleague were friendly, respectful of the home environment, very neat and tidy, and helpful with the kids (Dan even fed the rabbit when we went away!). Many thanks – we will recommend you highly to our friends.
